Rocky, sloped terrain near the water is notoriously tricky to work with. It requires thoughtful plant selection, smart hardscaping, and a design that feels natural rather than forced.

That's exactly the kind of challenge we love. This waterfront install shows what's possible when you lean into the natural character of a property rather than fighting it. The rocky terrain along the shoreline became the foundation for a layered garden design - not something to cover up or remove.

We worked gravel pathways down the slope to create easy, walkable access toward the water without disturbing the natural rock outcroppings. Planted beds run along both sides, filled with ferns, low-growing perennials, and groundcovers that thrive in coastal conditions. The rope-and-post fencing follows the path naturally, adding definition without feeling rigid or overdone. Every decision was made to keep the space feeling open and relaxed.

The result is a yard you actually want to spend time in. There's a chair down near the water's edge, sailboats in the background, and a landscape that feels like it belongs there.
