Sometimes a yard doesn't need a full redesign - it just needs a serious cleanup. That's exactly where we started with this front yard. The raised garden bed along the stone retaining wall was packed with overgrown shrubs and a sprawling Japanese maple that had basically taken over the whole space.
We cleared out what wasn't working. The dense red Japanese maple and a tangle of overgrown plants were removed entirely, and the remaining shrubs were pruned back hard to reset the bed. What we were left with was a clean slate - fresh soil, open space, and a stone retaining wall that you can actually see now.
That's the thing about a good landscape cleanup. It's not just about making things look tidy. It's about creating room to work with. These homeowners now have real planting space to fill however they want - whether that's low-maintenance groundcovers, seasonal colour, or something completely new. The cleanup did the heavy lifting so they can focus on the fun part.
We trimmed back the rhododendron on the left side too, shaping it up so it fits the space better without crowding everything out. The whole front yard feels more open and intentional now. Less chaos, more potential.
This is the kind of work we genuinely enjoy. Garden maintenance and landscape cleanups aren't glamorous, but the results speak for themselves. A yard that felt stuck now has somewhere to go.
