This one is already turning heads and we're only a third of the way through. That's the kind of garden install we love - where the bones are strong enough that even mid-build, it's clear something special is happening here.
The space itself had a lot going on. Existing rhododendrons, mature shrubs, a tight side yard corridor, and a home under active construction next door. Working around all of that while keeping clean lines and a cohesive plant palette takes real planning. We didn't just drop plants in the ground - we laid everything out first to make sure the spacing, the color flow, and the overall feel were dialed in before a single thing got planted.
Plant selection was a big part of making this work. We mixed in heucheras for deep burgundy and red tones, catmint and nepeta for soft purple color at ground level, and lush leafy shrubs to fill out the mid and upper layers. The result is layered depth - not a flat row of plants, but a garden that has movement and texture at every height. The rounded stepping stones running through the center tie it all together and give the space a natural, intentional feel.
We're big believers that a garden install done right should look good from day one - not just after five years of growth. Getting there means thinking through every plant choice, every spacing decision, and every structural element before you ever break ground. That's the work that doesn't always get seen, but it's what separates a garden that thrives from one that just survives.
More of this one is on the way. We can't wait to show you the full picture when it's wrapped up.
