Sometimes a garden just needs a full reset. Not a quick tidy-up, but a proper clear-out - old material removed, the bed reworked from the ground up, and a clean slate to build from. That's exactly what we tackled here.
We stripped the bed right down, pulling out what wasn't working and prepping the soil properly before anything went back in. Getting the foundation right is the part most people skip, and it's also the reason so many garden beds end up a mess a year later. Good soil prep means plants actually settle in and thrive instead of just surviving.
Once the bed was ready, we brought in fresh soil and laid down a rich, dark top layer throughout the entire bed. Then came the replanting - a mix of perennials and flowering plants spaced out with room to grow. The curved retaining wall edge that separates the bed from the patio gives the whole space a clean, intentional feel that makes upkeep much easier going forward.
That's the part people don't always think about - a well-built garden bed isn't just nicer to look at, it's also easier to maintain. When everything is planted intentionally and the bed is properly built, you're not fighting it every season. Our garden installation and garden reset work is designed with that in mind.
Fall is actually one of the better times to do this kind of work. Plants have a chance to get established before the growing season kicks in, and the cooler, wetter weather does a lot of the watering work for you. If your garden bed has been on the back burner, now's a solid time to get it sorted.
